Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu Makes History as He Emerges 9th National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria

 



Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu has been elected the 9th National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) in a keenly contested election held in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The Kogi State–born thespian won by a slim margin of three votes, defeating his sole opponent, Hon. Rita Daniel Chukwuji, in what observers widely praised as a transparent and highly engaging electoral process.

His emergence is historic, as Yakubu becomes the first Northerner ever to be elected National President of the Guild, marking a significant milestone in the AGN’s evolution and national inclusiveness.

Since his victory was announced, congratulatory messages have poured in from top Nollywood stars, industry stakeholders, and admirers across the country. Many view his ascension as a fresh dawn for the Guild, with renewed hopes for unity, structural reforms, and progressive leadership.

Yakubu’s election signals a new chapter for the AGN as members anticipate a tenure defined by visionary growth, strengthened welfare, and broader representation in Nigeria’s creative landscape.
